INTERACTING WITH THE OPPOSITE SEX

Most of us have had jitters making that first conversation with someone from opposite gender which is quite common and natural to experience. It's not easy approaching a person of the opposite sex as there is:  Pressure of making a good first impression- We think that if we do not make a good first impression then we wouldn't be able to face the person again or get another chance to interact with them as they might have already formed an image about us. Fear of being judged - The fear of judgment is all the more pronounced when it comes to someone from opposite gender. Lack of exposure - Lack of exposure renders fewer opportunities to meet and converse with a member of the opposite sex and understand, internalize and experience the dynamics of such social interactions. Low self confidence- When a person evaluates themselves as inferior to others be it in terms of physical attractiveness, conversation skills, social conduct, it makes approaching the opposite gender an ardu...

Break Up Feeling

When a serious relationship breaks, psychologically our natural response to it is very similar to that for a traumatic event. The period post breakup is full of blurry visions of the future and absolutely no energy to be mindful of the present. We experience emotions like guilt, denial, confusion, shock, grief,  anger  and many more that we at times try to resist and at times get drowned in them. Being in a relationship entails a sense of belongingness to a person and getting accustomed to a life with them in it. Hence, coming out of a relationship is followed by a natural period of grieving that is almost certain to last for some time in every individual’s case. However, working around a few things can bring a significant change in our lives. How to cope? Give yourself a break Give yourself permission to feel and to function at a less than optimal level for a period of time. You may not be able to be quite as productive but no one is a superman or superwoman. Take t...

Love: Take A Look

Relationships don’t look like they used to (and that's a good thing). But what does it honestly take to make a modern romance work? As part of  Committed , we're exploring partnerships ranging from a textbook marriage between high-school sweethearts to a gay couple creating a life together in the conservative deep South.  If binge-watching   Gilmore Girls,  Scandal,  or   The Good Wife   has taught us anything, it's that   relationships   are messy. Personal experience proves it too: From our eighth-grade romance to our most recent   breakup   drama, "love isn't easy" is a life lesson we know all too well.  No matter your status— single , dating, engaged, or married—relationships take work. And whether they end with tears and empty Ben & Jerry's or last until forever may   depend upon countless factors, but your own   actions , words, and thoughts undoubtedly play a role.  One thing that'll give you an advan...

Dating: Take a Look

Romance is beautiful, and exposes us to many wonderful experiences. That said, life is not always about walking over a petal of roses. The constant desire to be accepted at all times, as well as the possibility of rejection can lead one to feel insecure, which may further generate trust issues. Lots of people resolve to enter into relationships, cultivate an exciting social life, and deepen connections as their New Year's Resolutions. In order to create and deepen connections, it is key to be practical about ways to enter into new relationships and improve current ones.  When we're too idealistic about our love lives and social lives, we can forget the simplest ways to make our relationships better. Sometimes it's as simple as spending time grabbing coffee with an old friend or your so. Sometimes it's as as simple as purchasing a small, inexpensive token of appreciation. It's the little things that speak more loudly over time.  If you are comparing intent...
